Miami's Boating Capital Demands Premium Care
Miami-Dade County has the highest number of registered vessels of any county in Florida, over 74,000 boats. The marine industry across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties generates an estimated $18.5 billion in annual economic impact, and Miami sits at the center of it.
That density means serious demand for boat detailing. But it also means your boat faces conditions that are uniquely harsh: Biscayne Bay's warm, nutrient-rich water fuels aggressive marine growth. The UV index hits 12 to 13, classified as "Extreme", for half the year. And constant saltwater exposure breaks down gelcoat, vinyl, and hardware faster than almost any other boating environment in the country.
Where We Detail in Miami
We service boats at marinas, private docks, and residential driveways throughout Miami. Our mobile detailing setup is fully self-contained, we bring water, power, and all marine-grade products to your location.
Dinner Key Marina
The largest wet slip marina on the US East Coast, 582 slips and 225 moorings in Coconut Grove. Home to sailboats, motor yachts, and live-aboards, all exposed to open Biscayne Bay conditions.
Miami Beach Marina
400 slips accommodating vessels up to 250 feet. A major superyacht destination with full-service amenities and high-visibility dockage.
Marine Stadium Marina
300-berth dry storage facility on Virginia Key, handling vessels up to 45 feet. One of South Florida's largest dry storage operations.
Downtown Miami Marinas
Miamarina at Bayside (130 slips), EPIC Marina, and 5th Street Marina on the Miami River, the densest superyacht concentration outside Monaco.
Why Miami Boats Need More Frequent Detailing
Three factors make Miami one of the hardest environments in the country for boat surfaces:
Extreme UV Exposure
Miami's UV index peaks at 12 to 13 (Extreme rating) from April through September, with a burn time of just 10 minutes. Even in winter, the index stays at "High" levels. This year-round bombardment oxidizes gelcoat, fades vinyl, and degrades wax coatings faster than manufacturer recommendations account for, because those recommendations are calibrated for moderate climates, not subtropical Miami.
Biscayne Bay Water Quality
Unlike the cleaner Intracoastal waters further north around Boca Raton or West Palm Beach, Biscayne Bay has documented elevated nutrient pollution, recurring algae blooms, and declining water quality. Boats moored here deal with heavier biofilm, persistent yellowish-green waterline staining, and organic buildup that standard soap cannot remove, requiring marine-grade acidic cleaners and professional buffing.
Year-Round Marine Growth
South Florida's warm water accelerates barnacle and algae growth faster than almost any other boating environment in the US. Barnacles attach with cement-like adhesive that bonds directly to the hull, improper removal gouges gelcoat and antifouling paint. Heavy barnacle growth increases hull drag by up to 60% and fuel consumption by up to 40%. Hull cleaning every 4 to 8 weeks is the recommended interval for Miami-area boats.
Coconut Grove: Miami's Sailing Heart
While most of South Florida skews toward center consoles and power boats, Coconut Grove has a deeply established sailing culture. The Coconut Grove Sailing Club, Shake-a-Leg Miami, and the Dinner Key mooring field support a community of cruising sailboats, racing sailboats, and live-aboards.
Sailboat detailing has different requirements than powerboat work: teak deck maintenance, standing rigging cleaning, sail locker mildew treatment, and bottom paint maintenance for keel boats that stay in the water year-round. Our team is experienced in both power and sail.
Hurricane Season Creates Two Demand Spikes
Miami's position as one of the most hurricane-exposed cities in the US creates a detailing demand pattern that is stronger here than in any other city we serve:
- May (pre-season): Full detail and protective ceramic coating or wax before the June 1 hurricane season start. Clean-and-cover service for boats going into dry storage.
- October–November (post-season): Oxidation removal, salt wash-down, mildew treatment, and full compound-and-polish to restore boats that rode out the season in the water or in storage.
We recommend booking pre-season work by mid-May. Availability tightens fast as June approaches.
